clearly a beat b by 10 seconds

distance covered by b in 10 seconds =

1000÷200×10=50m

(3min20sec=1 km

200sec=1000th

1 sec=1000÷200=5

10sec=5×10=50 m

a can beat b by 50 m

A beats B by a distance of 50 m.

Step-by-step explanation:

A runs 1 km in 3 minutes and 10 seconds

Converting time in seconds, we get ,  (3\times 60) + 10 seconds = 190 s.

B runs 1 km in 3 minutes and 20 seconds i.e. (3\times 60) + 20 seconds = 200 s.

So, there is a difference of 10 seconds between A and B to travel the same distance of 1 km.

If we find the distance travelled by B in 190 seconds, we will know, how far behind B is than A.

Using unitary method,

200 seconds = 1 km = 1000 m

1 second = \frac{1000m}{200} = 5 m

190 second = 5\times 190 = 950 m.

Thus, B will be (1000 -950) = 50 m behind A after 190 seconds.

So, A beats B by 50 m.
