Average Speed = 48 km/hr

Explanation:

Assuming X is the distance AB in km, then the total time will be:

Time for AB = distance / speed = X / 60

Time for BA = X / 40

Total time taken = X / 60 + X / 40

Total length = X + x = 2X

Average Speed =  total length / total time

= 2X / ( X/60 + x/40 )

= 2 * 60 * 40 / (40 + 60)

= 48 km/hr
