Given :

Initial velocity = 10m/s

Time interval = 5s

Distance travelled = 100m

To Find :

Acceleration of the car.

Solution :

❖ Since acceleration is said to be constant throughout the motion, equation of kinematics can be easily applied to solve this question.

2nd equation of kinematics is given by

  • s = ut + 1/2 at²

» s denotes distance

» u denotes initial velocity

» t denotes time

» a denotes acceleration

By substituting the given values;

➙ s = ut + 1/2 at²

➙ 100 = 10(5) + 1/2 a(5)²

➙ 100 = 50 + 25a/2

➙ 100 - 50 = 25a/2

➙ 50 = 25a/2

➙ 25a = 100

➙ a = 100/25

a = 4 m/s²

Acceleration of the car is 4 m/s².
