Given: Number of litres of fuel required by the car on day 1 = 5

Number of litres of fuel required by the car on day 2 = 10

To find: The average fuel consumption of the car over the two days' journey

Solution: Average, which is the arithmetic mean, and is calculated by adding a group of numbers and then dividing by the count of those numbers.

As such, average = sum of all observations/total number of observations.

Hence to find the average fuel consumption of the car over the two days' journey, we add the amount of fuel consumed by the car on both days

= (5 + 10) litres

= 15 litres.

We see, total number of observations = 2.

Therefore, the average fuel consumption of the car = 15/2 litres/day

                                                                                         = 7.5 litres/day

Answer: 7.5 litres/day
