If a car travels first 20 km at speed of 40km/h-1 and next 40km at a speed of 80km/h-1. find the speed

1st case:

distance= 20km

speed=40kmph

time=distance/speed

=20/40

= 1/2 hr

2nd case:

distance=40km

speed=80kmph

time = 40/80=1/2 hr

hence, for equal time,

Average speed:-

(speed1+speed 2) /2

=(40+80) /2

=120/2

= 60kmph.......(Ans)
