If the radius of the sphere is doubled the area becomes four times the initial area.

Let the radius of original circle be r
Area = pi r^2 -------(1)
New Radius = 2r
New Area = pi (2r)^2
New Area = 4 pi r^2 -------(2)
From equation 1 and 2, we get
New Area = 4 times of original Area
And,
Increase in area = New Area - Original Area
= 4 pi r^2 - pi r^2
= 3 pi r^2
Area = pi r^2 -------(1)
New Radius = 2r
New Area = pi (2r)^2
New Area = 4 pi r^2 -------(2)
From equation 1 and 2, we get
New Area = 4 times of original Area
And,
Increase in area = New Area - Original Area
= 4 pi r^2 - pi r^2
= 3 pi r^2
