Given :

  • Force acting on the plunger = 500 N

  • Area of contact = 0.4 m²

To Find :-

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The pressure exerted .

Solution :-

Let the pressure exerted be P.

We know the formula for Pressure , i.e,

\underline{\boxed{\bf{Pressure = \dfrac{Thrust}{Area}}}}

Now , some information about pressure !!

  • Pressure decreases with the increase in area.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀\underline{\bf{P \propto \dfrac{1}{A}}}

  • Pressure increases with increase in area.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀\underline{\bf{P \propto F}}

  • The standard unit of pressure is N/m²or Pascal. (Abbreviated as Pa)

Now using the formula and substituting the values in it, we get :-

:\implies \bf{Pressure = \dfrac{Thrust}{Area}} \\ \\ \\ :\implies \bf{Pressure = \dfrac{500}{0.4}} \\ \\ \\ :\implies \bf{Pressure = \dfrac{5000}{4}} \\ \\ \\ :\implies \bf{Pressure = 1250 Pa} \\ \\ \\ \therefore \bf{Pressure\:Exerted = 1250 Pa}

Hence, the pressure exerted is 1250 Pa.
