The sandy soil is unfit for the growth of most of the plants and thus, the farmers need to change the nature of this soil.
The water retaining capacity of the soil can be boosted by increasing the amounts of organic matters in the soil, which can be done by adding decomposable plant and animal matters to the farm soil.
The addition of organic manure and the growth of some cover crops are other useful techniques adopted for improving the water holding capacity of that soil.

Sandy soil does not hold water well because sandy soil has large sized particles which do not hold water.
This soil will have more percolation rate.
To improve the water holding capacity of sandy soil ( clay soil , manures ) are added to increase water retention capacity.
by adding leaves, animal dung, twings , sludge to make sandy soil into a water retaining soil
