Colour blindness is the sex-linked disease. The genes that codes for photopigments are carried on X chromosome. If son is suffering from colour blindness that means he must have inherited the X chromosome from the mother. The mother is either the carrier of the disease or is suffering from the disease. The son is not inherited the trait from the father.
