After washing with plenty of water,apply solution of NaOH on the hand. The reason why a base must not be applied in case of acid burn is that,the neutralisation reaction between acid and the bas will produce heat,causing further serious burns.Moreover,salt will form during neutralisation reaction and this salt can cause harm ,if it is toxic. Washing with water removes the acid and cools the burning sensation.
