If a few leaves of a potted plant are coated with a thin layer of oil then the leaves of a healthy potted plant are coated with vaseline the stomata close up hence restricting the gaseous exchange due to this the process of photosynthesis is hampered and the plant will eventually die off.

If the leaves of a money plant are coated with oil, then stomata present on the surface of the leaf will get blocked. Transpiration which takes place through stomata would be affected adversely. ... So the plant will eventually die.
