B invested for 2 months

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Investment of A = 4000 rupees for 4 months and 3000 for 8 months  ( ∵ he withdraws the amount of Rs. 1000 after 4 months )

Investment of B = 5000

Consider B invested his money for x months,

We know that,

Profit is jointly proportional to time and investment,

Thus, the ratio of profits of A and B = 4 × 4000 + 8 × 3000 : x × 5000

= 16000 + 24000 : 5000x

= 40,000 : 5000x

= 8 : x

Now, total profit = 20,000

In which A's profit = 16,000

So, B's profit = 20,000 - 16000 = 4000

That is, the ratio of profits of A and B  =16000 : 4000 = 4 : 1

\implies \frac{8}{x} = \frac{4}{1}

\implies x =\frac{8}{4}=2

Hence, B invested for 2 months.
