given a is 40% more than b.

let b be 100.

then, a =40% more than b. given

a=100+40 % of 100

= 100+40/100*100

=100+40

=140

hence , a=140

then, b is 140-100 =40 less than a.

then , b is 40/140*100%=120/7=28.57% less than a.
