before number of any number is known as predecessor and after number of any number is known as successor . For example : - 1 is the predecessor of 2 and 2 is the successor of 1.
here notable point is that " difference of predecessor number of a number from that number = 1. for example :- 8 is predecessor of 9 , then 9 - 8 = 1
And difference of a number from predecessor of that number = -1. for example:- 9 is predecessor of 10 then, 9 - 10 = -1

Now, according to question,
a is the predecessor of b , means a is before number of b
e.g., b = a + 1

Hence, (a - b) = (a - a - 1) = -1

And (b - a) = a + 1 - a = 1

HELLO DEAR,

we know that:-

before number of any number is known as predecessor and after number of any number is known as successor .

For example : - 2 is the predecessor of 3 and 3 is the successor of 3.

and, the difference of predecessor of a number from that number = 1.

Let us take above example :-

2 is the predecessor of 3
then 3 - 2 1

Another example :- 7 is predecessor of 8 , then 8 - 7 = 1

Now,

according to question,

a is the predecessor of b ,

it means a is before number of b

Like:- b = a + 1

Hence, (a - b) = (a - a - 1) = -1

And (b - a) = a + 1 - a = 1

I HOPE ITS HELP YOU DEAR,
THANKS
