If a light ray incident on one of the faces of the prism with an angle of 40° with the surface. The angle of the prism is 60°. The emergent ray is deviated through an angle 38 °. The angle of emergence is

1) 38°
2) 48°
3) 52°
4) 58°

I am applying i + e = A + angle of deviation and getting answer 58° but the answer is coming 48°. Please help.

Here is your answer

We know that

in a prism

i+e = A + D

where

i= angle of incidence

e= angle of emergence

A= angle of prism

D= angle of deviation

So,

40+e=60+38

e= 98-40

e= 58 degrees
