Question :- If a line passes through the point (-4, 9) and is parallel to x-axis then the equation is _____ . ?

Solution :-

we have given that, the line is parallel to x - axis . we know that, equation of the x - axis is y = 0 .

So,

Slope of x - axis = 0 .

Now, we know that, when 2 lines are parallel to each other their slope is same. (m1 = m2) .

Therefore,

→ slope of parallel line = m2 = 0

→ y = mx + c

Now, the line is passing through the point (-4, 9) .

→ 9 = m(-4) + c

→ 9 = 0 * (-4) + c

→ 9 = 0 + c

→ c = 9

Hence,

→ y = 0 + c

→ y = 9

The equation of the line is y = 9.
