If a man goes from his house to South direction and travel 5 m and then he changed his direction to North and travel 8m and takes a right turn and again travel 4 m and takes a left turn and travel 2 m now find the shortest distance between it's final and initial position Plz answer urgent

Answer :

\setlength{\unitlength}{1.5mm}\begin{picture}(5,5)\put(0,0){\line(1,0){20}}\put(0,0){\line(0,-1){15}}\put(-1.5,-18){\framebox(3,3){S}}\put(20,-1.5){\framebox(3,3){F}}\put(0,-15){\line(4,3){20}}\put(4,-20){8\ m}\put(6,-18){\vector(0,1){18}}\put(6,-22){\vector(0,-1){21}}\put(10,-10){shortest\ distance}\put(-6,-30){5\ m}\put(26,-3){2\ m}\put(15,3){$4$\ m}\thicklines\put(0,-18){\line(0,-1){25}}\put(23,0){\line(1,0){10}}\end{picture}

S - Starting point

F - Final point

8 - 5 = 3m

4 - 2 = 2m

by using Pythagoras theorem

base = 2 m

height = 3m

To find :

hypotenuse (shortest distance)

Solution :

we know that,

(Hypotenuse)² = (base)² + (height)²

= (2)² +(3)²

= 4+9

= 13

hypotenuse = √13

{\pink{\boxed{Shortest\: distance = \sqrt{13} }}}
