This is due to Newton's third law of motion .

The man jumps with an action so the boat gives the reaction that it moves backward.

So according to Newton's third law of motion every object has equal and opposite reaction.

noyalashim6: Pls explain
mdhadaytullahmdh: to every action there is equal and opposite reaction ....
mdhadaytullahmdh: the same force is applied on the boat and on a body of man
KarthikM: I have edited the amswer , see it
mdhadaytullahmdh: that is why....the...boat and the. man pushed simultaneously

Answer: because during the jump the man actually pushes the backward...it is same the friction like when we walk we pushes the road backward so we move forward.
