Answer:

Simply the main reason is surface area.

When a man is standing then the surface area covered by the man is less.

While when he is sitting on chair then the same force (weight) is applied on bigger area.

So surface area increased and force decreased

Answer:

This is all about the division of weight or you can say pressure.

See, Pressure = Force/ Area

This means that pressure is directly proportional to Force but inversely proportional to surface area.

So, Greater the area, lesser the Pressure on it. Now, in this case, When standing on a chair, the surface area of your feet is less, so high pressure is exerted on the chair, so higher the chance of breaking. But while sitting, the surface area gets increased because your BUTTS have a greater surface area. So, pressure becomes less. In other words, your weight gets evenly distributed on the chair, so less chance of breaking.
