Transfer the 2 liters of milk from the 5-liter milk tank to the 3-liter can. The 3-liter can now has exactly 2-liters of milk in it. Refill the 5-liter can completely full. Pour milk from the 5-liter can into the 3-liter can (which already has 2 liters of milk). It will take exactly 1 liter of milk to fill the 3-liter can up (since it already had 2 liters of milk in it). The 5-liter can now has exactly 4 liters of milk in it (5 liters - 1 liter = exactly 4 liters of milk left in the 5-liter can).
