23

Explanation:

In the time of reproduction male and female reproductive organs release a special reproductive hormone called gametes. The male gamete is called sperm and the female gamete is called ovum

On the time of reproduction ovaries in the female reproductive organ releases one ovum every 24 days. The ovum travels through the fallopian tube and then come to the uterus. If there is no fertilization of the ovum the ovum dies. There is a limited production of ovum.800 - 1000 ovum will produced. But the sperms are unlimited.

The first ovum produced is called menarche. The lastovum produced is called menopause. The sex of a baby is dependent on the sperm . There are two sex chromosomes. X and Y chromosomes ( Named after their shapes). The ovum is always X chromosome . The sperm may carry X or Y chromosomes. If the sperm carry X and the baby will be XX ( a girl). If the sperm Carry Y and the baby will be XY ( a boy) . The ovum consists of 23 sex chromosomes and the sperm contains 23 sex chromosomes.

This totally 46 chromosomes.
