1/3 y = 1/2 x              1st

and x+y =50            2nd

so substitute x from eq, 2nd to 1st

hence we have x = y+50  from 2nd

put it in 1st  and solve

after putting value of x in 1st equation we get

1/3 y =1/2 (50-y)

by cross multiplication we have

2y = 150-3y

which becomes

5y = 150

so we have larger part i.e. y=30

put value of y in 2nd and we get x=20

x+30 = 50

x =50-30

x=20
