According to the question,

3x=x+28

or,3x-x=28

or,2x=28

or,x=28/2

or,x=14

according to first statement :

when the number is tripled ,

then the number formed = 3 x

according to second statement :

when 28 is added to the number

then the obtained number = x + 28

since,

Find the number :

3 x - x = 28 => 2 x = 28 => x = 14

therefore , the required number is 14 .

verify : when x = 14

3 × 14 = 14 + 28

42 = 42

hence, the required number is 14.
