Answer:

  • Required fraction is 1/3

Explanation:

Given,

  • Numerator of a fraction is 2 less than the denominator
  • If 1 is added to its denominator, it becomes 1/2

To find,

  • Fraction

Solution,

Let, numerator of fraction be x   &

Denominator of fraction be y

then, the fraction will be x / y

Now,

Since, numerator is 2 less than denominator therefore,

→ x = y - 2   _____equation ①

And,

On adding 1 to the denominator fraction will become 1/2 therefore,

→ x / ( y + 1 ) = 1 / 2

→ 2 x = y + 1

using equation

→ 2 ( y - 2 ) = y + 1

→ 2 y - 2 = y + 1

→ 2 y - y = 1 + 2

y = 3

putting value of y in equation

→ x = y - 2

→ x = 3 - 2

x = 1

Hence,

  • The required fraction is; x/y = 1/3.
