if a person covers 3m in east from its origin and then from that only point covers 4 meters to the north so then find the distance and the displacement covered

Given:

AB = 3 m

BC = 4 m.

• Total distance travelled by the person = AB + BC

=> 3 m + 4 m = 7 m.

• Using Pythagoras theorem,

(AB)² + (BC)² = (AC)²

(3)² + (4)² = (AC)²

9 + 16 = (AC)²

25 = (AC)²

AC = √25

AC = 5 m.

Total displacement covered = AC = 5 m.

Therefore, total distance travelled by the person = 7 m and displacement covered = 5 m.
