Answer:

Let the total income of the person be x.

Then,

=> Money given to his wife = 2/5 of x

= 2x/5

=> Money given to his son = 1/5 of x

= x/5

Now,

According to the question;

Money left with the person is Rs.4000.

Thus, we have;

=> x - ( 2x/5 + x/5) = 4000

=> x - 2x/5 - x/5 = 4000

=> (5x - 2x - x)/5 = 4000

=> 2x/5 = 4000

=> x = 4000•(5/2)

=> x = 10000.

Thus, the total income of the person is;

Rs. 10000.

Moreover,

Money given to the wife = 2x/5

= Rs. 4000

Money given to the son = x/5

= Rs. 2000
