Answer:

Anemia (or Anaemia) is a disease in which the number of RBCs decreases significantly in the blood. In hilly areas, there's a less concentration of oxygen in the air compared to near-sea-level-areas, due to the altitude and the molecular weight of O2 (32). As we know, the RBCs are responsible for carrying oxygen molecules to the tissues, and their efficiency decreases in low O2 concentrations (refer the Hb-O2 dissociation curve for more info on this). The human body tries to compensate for this reduced efficiency by promoting erythropoeisis so there's enough amount of RBCs in the blood to carry the oxygen.
