Hi there
Normally plants do release oxygen and take Carvbondioxide in order to perform photosynthesis in the presence of water and Sunlight.
This is usually occur during day in the presence of Sunlight. So Some scientists say that some plants take oxygen and release carbon dioxide during night because it need to perform the eating process in order to release Glucose in the body of plant. But as this is not so particularly for all trees, there is no particular process to determine this.
As This might be true in some plants like Banyan tree,Neem trees etc only at nights
Hope this will help u dear☺☺

Answer:
If plant is releasing carbon dioxide and taking in oxygen during the day, it means that respiration is happening in plant. But it does not mean that photosynthesis is not happening. Carbon dioxide released after respiration comes out of stomata. Respiration is independent of photosynthesis.
