if a plant is releasing co2 and taking in oxygen free containers ​

Plant releases oxygen in response to photosynthesis and release CO2 in response to respiration .

Since plant is a living organism so it needs oxygen to fuel its engine (here, body of plant) and via respiration it release CO2. The energy released is utilised for photosynthesis to form glucose
