This does not mean that plant is not performing photosynthesis...The plant is releasing co2 during night because of the process of respiration it do...This happens at night only because of the absence of sunlight at night...During the day plants do photosynthesis and releases o2...

The carbon dioxide required for photosynthesis is taken through stomata. So, even if a plant keeps on taking in oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide during the day, it does not mean that no photosynthesis is happening in the plant.
