Correct Question :-

  • If a point P(x, y) is at equidistant from ( 7, 1) and (3,5), find relation between x and y.

Given :-

  • A point P(x,y) is equidistant from (7,1) and (3,5).

To find :-

  • Relation between x and y?

Solution :-

☯ Let first point be A and second point be B.

Therefore,

  • P (x,y)
  • A (x₁ , y₁ )
  • B (x₂ , y₂ )

Now, According to the Question:

  • A point P(x,y) is equidistant from A (7,1) and B (3,5).

Therefore,

PA² = PB²

➻ √(x - 7)² + (y - 1)² = √(x - 3)² + (y - 5)²

➻ x² - 14x + 49 + y² - 2y + 1 = x² - 6x + 9 + y² - 10y + 25

➻ x² + y² - 14x - 2y + 50 = x² + y² - 6x - 10y + 34

➻ - 14x - 2y + 50 = - 6x - 10y + 34

➻ - 14x + 6x - 2y + 10y = 34 - 50

➻ - 8x + 8y = - 16

➻ 8x - 8y = 16

➻ 8(x - y) = 16

➻ x - y = 16/8

x - y = 2
