if a police car running after a thief's car with the speed 126 km/hr if a bullet is fired from the police car with the speed of 200m/s .If the speed of police car is 36 km/hr.if the initial distance between police car and thieves car is 200 m .Find out whether bullet will hit the thief car

speed of thief's car = 126km/hr = 35m/s

speed of police car = 36km/hr = 10m/s

speed of bullet = 200m/s

initial separation between thief's car and police car = 200m

As the bullet was fired from a police car that was already moving with a speed of 10m/s, the speed of the bullet relative to ground = 200 + 10 = 210m/s

Now, the relative speed of the bullet as seen by a thief in his car = 210 - 35

= 175m/s

It means that if you consider the thief's car as a stationary object, then the bullet approaches the thief's car with a speed of 175 m/s

So, the time in which the bullet reaches the thief's car = 200/175 =1.14 seconds

Thus, the bullet will definitely hit the Thief's car.

Hope it helps!!

Speed of the police van,

v(p) = 30 km/h = 8.33 m/s

Muzzle speed of the bullet,

v(b) = 150 m/s

Speed of the thief’s car,

v(t )= 192 km/h = 53.33 m/s

Since the bullet is fired from a moving van, its resultant speed can be obtained as: = 150 + 8.33 = 158.33 m/s

Since both the vehicles are moving in the same direction, the velocity with which the bullet hits the thief’s car can be obtained as: v(bt) = v(b) – v(t)= 158.33 – 53.33 = 105 m/s

I hope, this will help you
