let the positive square root be   x

THE positive number =x²


given,x²=x+12


x²-x-12=0
x²-4x+3x-12=0

x(x-4)+3(x-4)=0


(x+3)(x-4)=0


x=-3,4

hence -3 is not positive square root



4 is the positive square root

the number is 4²=16

THE NUMBER IS 16

16-12=4
√16=4
