First find the work done by the pump that is

mass*acceleration due to gravity*height

in this case that is :1000*45*9.8=441000 [Convert liter into kg]

so work done by the pump is 441000 joule.

now according to the formula of power

power= Work/Time you can find the power of the pump

in this case that is: Power=441000/60 [60 seconds=1 minute]

                                          =7350 watt

convert the watt to horse power by conversion method

746 watt equal to 1 horse power

1 watt is 1/746 horse power

and finally 7350 watt is 1*7350/746

so the horse power of the pump is 9.85.

Hope this helps.
