Answer:

Refractive index = speed of light in vacuum(c) / speed of light in medium ( v)

Refractive index of alcohol = 1.36

speed of light in vacuum = 3 × 10^8 m/s

speed of light in alcohol = v m/s

Therefore, 1.36= 3 × 10^8 / v

v = 3×10^8 / 1.36

v = 2.2 ×10^8 m/s

Answer:

Refractive index of air is taken to be 1

speed of light in atmosphere is 3 * 10^8 m/s

let speed of light in alcohol be x m/s

n1 / n2 = v2 / v1

1 / 1.36 = x / 3 * 10^8

x = 3 * 10^8 / 1.36

on solving

x = 2.20 * 10^8 m/s
