Given : a resistance is added in series to capacitor

To Find :  what changes will occur in the current flowing in the circuit and phase angle between voltage and current

Solution:

current leads the voltage in pure Capacitive circuit by  π/2

Voltage ( EMF) & current are in same phase for pure resistive circuit

Hence when a resistance is added in series to capacitor

Impedance  will increase  Hence Current will be reduced

phase angle between voltage and current  will be between 0 and π/2

Hence Phase angle and current both will decrease .

inductive circuits

Positive phase for inductive circuits

current lags the voltage in pure inductive circuit by  π/2

Hence Voltage lead the current  by  π/2

EMF lead the current  by  π/2    in pure inductive circuit

Capacitive circuits

Negative phase for Capacitive circuits

current leads the voltage in pure Capacitive circuit by  π/2

Hence Voltage lags the current  by  π/2

EMF lags the current  by  π/2    in pure Capacitive circuit

Resistive circuits

Voltage ( EMF) & current are in same phase for pure resistive circuit

current flowing in the circuit  with capacitor
