When 1 nail pricks the net area is negligible comapered to the force .

Thus Pressure = Force/Area => P = F/A

So the pressure is high and we feel pain.

When we talk about the bed of nails the net area is too much for the force to act properly.

Thus pressure is very very low and we don't feels any pain.

Answer:

The answer is because of more contact area and lesser pressure.

Explanation:

i) According to the definition of pressure,

Pressure (P) = Force (F) / Contact area (A)

ii) When the weight of the body is applied over a single nail, the contact area is too small, and hence the pressure big enough to get through our skin and be painful.

iii) When the weight of the body is applied over a bed of nails, the contact area is larger and hence the pressure lower, not enough to hurt us.

iv) Hence, due to larger contact area, the pressure is lesser, and we remain unhurt.
