The entire concept is based on simple physics and is really easy to explain. When the bus is stationary, the passengers inside are also in the state of stagnation.

When the bus suddenly speeds up, the lower part of the passengers' body moves in the direction of the bus because the lower part of the body is connected to the bus floor.

It goes into a state of motion.

However, the upper part of our body is still in stagnant mode and it takes a while to get into the same state of motion as the bus.

That is why the passengers are thrown backwards when a bus suddenly speeds up.
