Given :- If a task can be done in ‘m' ways and then another task can be done in ‘n’ ways, then the first task or the second task can be done in ways.

a) n-m

b) m/n

c) m+n

d) mn

Answer :- c) m+n .

Explanation :-

→ If a task can be done in = m ways

and,

→ another task can be done in = n ways

then,

→ The first task or the second task can be done (but not both) in = (m + n) ways . { By sum rule.}

also,

→ If a task can be done in = m ways

and,

→ another task can be done in = n ways

then,

→ Both first task and second task can be done in = m * n = mn ways . { By Product rule.}

therefore, option (c) m + n is correct answer .
