Given :   a thread of length 5m

To find : which close figure  can be formed from this thread  to get maximum area

Solution:

For a given perimeter Circle has maximum Area

If a thread of length 5m is   given

=>  Perimeter of figure  =    5 m

if we make Equilateral Triangle  then Area =  (√3 / 4) (5/3)² = 1.2 m²

if we make Square then   Area =   (5/4)² = 1.5625 m²

if we make hexagon then Area = 6  (√3 / 4) (5/6)²  = 1.8 m²

Hence we can see as number of sides increases the area keep increasing

A circle has virtually infinite sides

Hence Circle would be having maximum area

2πR  = 5

=> R = (5/2π)

Area = πR²   =  π  (5/2π)²   = 25 / 4π   =  1.99  m²

If a thread of length 5m is  given then   Circle can be formed to get maximum area
