If a tip of sugarcane plant removed from the fin even then it keeps growing in length.why?

When The tip of sugarcan is removed from the main plant, and planted separately,the sugarcan is able toh collect water through the hair like roots ,which come out from the ring portion, And, the planted tip portion able to make its own food,after some days,it becomes an independent plant.
