Construction:Join DP

Let DM perpendicular to AB and PN perpendicular to AB

Proof:for parallelogram ABCD:

Height=DM...Base=AB

Ar. (ABCD) =Base × Height

=AB×DM

for triangle APB

Height =PN...Base=AB

Ar. (APB) =1/2 ×AB×PN

as opposite sides of parallelogram are equal..PN=DM

Let's substitute DM on the place of PN

From and

Ar. (APB) =1/2 ar.(ABCD)
