Initially ,

R =pL/A

here,

R=resistance

p=resistivity

L=length

A =area of cross section

Now ,

On melting new length becomes half of it's initial length

L' =L/2

So the area of cross section doubles

A '= 2A

R ' = p L/4A

R '= R/ 4
