FORMULA TO BE IMPLEMENTED

DIFFERENCE

The difference of two subsets P & Q is a subset of U, denoted by P - Q and defined as

 \sf{P- Q =  \{ \: x  \in \: P :  x  \notin \: Q \:  \}}

GIVEN

  • A={ x : x is factor of 12 }
  • B={ x : x is prime factor of 12 }

TO DETERMINE

  • A - B
  • B - A
  • Is A - B = B - A

CALCULATION

The factors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12

The prime factors of 12 are 2, 3

So

 \sf{A = \{ \: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 \}}

 \sf{B= \{ \:  2, 3 \}}

So

 \sf{A  -  B= \{ \: 1,  4, 6, 12 \}}

Since every element of B are in A

So

 \sf{ B -A  \: = \phi}

Hence

 \sf{ A - B  \:  \ne \:  B - A \: }
