• a² + b² = 4 ———(i)

• (a - b)² = 36 ———(ii)

From \tt{eq}^{n}(ii) ,

a² – 2ab + b² = 36

→ a² + b² – 2ab = 36

→ 4 – 2ab = 36 {from \tt{eq}^{n}(i)}

→ – 2ab = 36 – 4

→ – 2ab = 32

→ ab = –32/2

ab = –16

Hence the value of ab is 16
