A cell will be called living only if it's capable of dividing and have active biochemical activity. To exist a cell in space and in time, it should have a morphology and some mass which is contributed by the presence of organelles, enclosed by a membrane, cell wall and cytoplasmic fluids. Till date, presence of nucleic acid has been attributed as key to cell survival and division and absence of it makes it just a bio-organic matter.
