Answer:

Yes,any waste can cause harm but in case of biodegradable wastes they can be used to prepare biogas instead of throwing it here and there to release methane(a greenhouse gas),Cow dungs can be used as fuel or manure. etc so they can harm the environment but by suitable use they can become very useful for us without harming Nature.

hope it helps

Answer:

It depends on the amount of waste generated. Our environment is able to degrade biodegradable waste at a particular pace. But dumping huge amounts of waste, even if biodegradable, will end up polluting the environment. This is because nature will be unable to decompose the waste into harmless materials at the right time.

If produced in excess, biodegradable waste can create the following positive as well as negative impact on the environment:

Positive impacts:

It will considerably reduce the pollution caused by the non-biodegradable substances.

We can easily dispose the waste without harming the environment.

It will improve the standard of living with the usage of natural substances.

Negative impacts:

Rotting of large amounts of biodegradable waste in open, give out foul odour.

Heaps of biodegradable waste provides a breeding ground for mosquitoes, flies and worms which spread many diseases.

Accumulation of biodegradable waste in water bodies could lead to problems like algal bloom and affect the surroundings too.

So a proper system of collecting, transporting and disposing the biodegradable waste needs to be put in place, in order to minimize the impact on environment.
