Solution :

The given equation is

x² - 5x + 6 = 0

Since α and β are the roots of the equation, by the relation between roots and coefficients, we get

  • α + β = - (- 5/1) = 5
  • αβ = 6/1 = 6

Now, (α - β)²

= (α + β)² - 4αβ

= 5² - (4 * 6)

= 25 - 24

= 1

α - β = ± 1
