The sum of roots of equation-

α + β = -\dfrac{b}{a}

        =  -[\dfrac{-5}{1}]

α + β = 5              -------------------- 2.

Adding equation 1 and 2 -

α - β = 1

α + β = 5    

             Adding    

2α = 6

α = 3

Put α = 3 in equation 1

3 - β = 1

β = 3 - 1

β = 2

Hence, α = 3 and β = 2
