p(x) = x² + 6x + 8
a = 1
b = 6
c = 8
Given α and β are zeroes of p(x)
sum of the roots = α + β = –b/a
α + β = –6
product of roots = αβ = c/a
αβ = 8
So
α + β – αβ = – 6 – 8
α + β – αβ = – 14
